Art Week

In an effort to support and generate more awareness of West Ottawa's outstanding Arts programs, the Student Senate is excited to announce West Ottawa Art Week at the Holland Area Arts Council. 120 pieces of student art and high quality copies of student art from WOHS and the Middle Schools will be displayed all week at the Arts Council downtown.

Saturday is an evening not to miss! The week will culminate with performances by various talented WO music and theater groups. Also, local restaurants will be providing hors d'oeuvres and light snacks. The evening starts at 6 and admission is free.

The ZAPS ACT workshop will continue today

If you missed the opportunity to order your class ring, Jostens representatives will be back on Tuesday, January 26th during lunch to size you and help you with your order form. The sale on select metals and rings has been extended until Tuesday. Extra order information packets are available in the office or you can design your class ring at www.jostens.com

LAUP is hosting a Hispanic youth leadership conference on Tuesday, February 16 at Hope College. Many of you have already turned in registration forms. If you have not done so or would like to be considered for this special event, see your counselor immediately. Registration is due ASAP. It’s best to have your registration in by Tuesday, January 26. If you do, you are guaranteed a LAUP T-shirt. See your counselor for more details.

Pre-season conditioning for guy’s track and field takes place Monday through Thursday every week. Meet with Coach Kingma or Coach Knoll at 3:00 pm in the north building gym balcony to get in shape for the spring!

Juniors-you can still sign up for the ZAPS ACT workshop which will be on Monday, January 25 and Tuesday January 26. Choose either an after school or evening session. Cost is $79. It’s easy to register at www.zaps.com. See your counselor if you have any questions. This is a great way to practice and get tips for the ACT.


Attention girls soccer players. There is still time to register for the after-school performance training sessions conducted by Holland Hospital. Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30 at the south gym/weight room. Cost is $25. See Coach De Leon or Coach Luna for more info or just show up with your registration form and fee.

Snowball Court nominations will take place during today’s Seminar. Teachers should pick up their ballots Tuesday morning from their mailboxes. Students who do not have a seminar should see Mrs. Luna in room A261 today in order to nominate.


Attention 9th and 10th graders: The GRCC Ninth and Tenth Grade Math Challenge is quickly approaching! This is an exciting competition where students are invited to

explore mathematical problems inn a fun and creative environment. Tryouts for the WOHS ninth and tenth grade Math Challenge Team will be held this week Tuesday (in Mrs. Ashby’s room A216) and Thursday (in Mrs. Meyer’s room 226) during seminar. Be sure to transfer there, and bring a pencil and a calculator. Last year’s team members will need to try out again. Please contact Mrs. Ashby (994-5224) or Mrs. Meyer (738-6953) with questions.

Attention skiers and snowboarders! Sign up for this week's ski trip on Friday, January 15th. The cost for the bus is $7 and can be paid in either the north guidance office or the south reception desk. Remember that only the first 15 to sign up and pay are guaranteed a spot on the bus. The remainder go on a wait list. Listen for an announcement Thursday after lunch for the confirmation of the trip for the week and for the status of those students on the wait list. You can still order a ski club card and join the club. See your building receptionist for an application. All new cards will be made during our next trip to Bittersweet. If you already ordered a card and did not pick up it before break, see Mrs. Bloemers at the north reception desk. Please see Mr. Spreitzer if you have any questions. Think snow!

Congratulations Connor Mikula!

Connor recently won the 16th Annual Norbert Mueller Concerto Competition earning him the title of the best alto saxophonist in Michigan. This was also the first time an alto saxophone won the contest and the prize of $500.

Both the Grand Rapids Press and the Holland Sentinel have articles highlighting Connor's achievement. Check them out and congratulate Connor when you see him.
