There will be a meeting today at 3:30 for all members of this past year's dance teams. The meeting will be held at the High School North's dance room and will last a half hour. If you were not on the dance team this past year, but are interested in trying out for next year, please do not attend this meeting, but rather another that will be held later in the next two weeks. The West Ottawa Theatre Caravan is getting ready to go on tour! We will kick off our 2010 tour with a free performance today.

Are you a senior seeking a job this summer? Beacon Professional Staffing will be here today at 3 pm in the north guidance office to fill positions for assembly and production workers in a variety of industries. You need to be 18, have a good attitude, a willingness to work hard, schedule flexibility, good references, clean backgrounds, and your high school diploma. Interested students should sign up to attend this meeting in either the south building with Mrs. Vogan or the north building with Mrs. Bloemers. Mrs. Dozeman or Mrs. Freas can answer any questions as well.

WOSO @ Nationals

WOSO Placed in the top ten in 8 of 24 events this weekend at the National S.O. Tournament hosted by the University of Illinois. In the end WO placed 17th out of the top 60 teams from around the country. This puts WO in the top 20 of all Science Olympiad teams in the country for the 4th time in 7 years.

10th place was earned in Physics Lab by Matt Harder and Nick Gezon.
10th place was also went to Ben Shryock, Kristi Wu and Christy Ky for Picture This.
9th place was earned by Greg Kolean for the trial event, Helicopter.
Another 9th was earned in It’s About Time by Josh Visscher and Matt Harder.
Medals were give to the 6th place finish in Mousetrap vehicle, which was built and driven by Greg Schramm with help from Jordan Vanderham.
4th place medals went to Alyssa Shepherd and Matt Harder for Write it Do it.
Jordan Vanderham, Reid Pinkham and Taylor Pratt also earned 4th for their Mission Possible device.
Silver medals were won by Taylor Pratt and Greg Schramm in Technical Problem Solving.

Seniors may e-mail their wills to Mr. Strobel over the weekend and pay their $3 next week. The more wills the more fun for all readers.

For all you dancers out there who go to teen nights at S Nightclub, they are asking for your help in fighting for a good cause. They want you to put those dancing feet to good use by joining their team in "Taking Steps" to cure Cystic Fibrosis. On Saturday, May 22nd, S Nightclub will be hosting the "Great Strides" Walkathon. Join your friends and family for an after party right there at the club. The party will feature live music by Eddy and the Breakers and it is a family event. For more information, go to www.CFF.org or just sign up at the club at 2 pm. That's this Saturday at 2 pm at the S Nightclub - Be there!

The 2010 yearbooks are in! Distribution will take place today in the North Building’s main hallway today starting at 2:45 PM.

French students! It is finally here!! A chance to try escargots! Today, French students should meet after school at 3:45 to go to dinner at the French restaurant Toulouse in Saugatuck. The bus will return at 7:30.

The West Ottawa High School Choirs will be performing in a concert tonight at 7:30 at the Performing Arts Center. This is free of charge!

Senior Oscar Night is tonight! Tickets can be purchased today at both lunches in both buildings or at the door at 6:30 pm. The cost is $2 for seniors and $4 for everyone else!

WOBN will be selling DVDs of Senior Oscar Night including back stage commentary from the winners for $10 per DVD. You need to order and pay for your DVD this week. You will be able to do so at Senior Oscar Night or you can order and pay by this Friday at either the north or south receptionist desk. DVDs will be delivered prior to Thursday, June 4.

French student’s permission slips for dinner at Tolouse are due today. The cost is $25 and a bus will leave WO at 3:45 tomorrow and return by 7:30. All students who took French this year are encouraged to attend!

Senior Oscar Night tickets are on sale today during both lunches at both buildings. Prices are $2 for all seniors and $4 for everyone else! You can purchase 5 tickets in advance for $15! The attire is “Fun Formal” for Seniors, and “classy” for everyone else!

Tickets for Senior Oscar Night on May 19 will be sold at lunch today through Wednesday. The cost is $2 for seniors and $4 for everyone else. You can get 5 tickets for $15 in advance! Tickets will be sold at the door as well. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit CTEE and the Drama Department.

Attention Senior Oscar Night participants. You should have received an invitation to an informational meeting today at 2 pm in the North Cafeteria. Please use this invite as a pass to leave class and attend the meeting. All participants are expected to attend.

Attention students who wish to run for a Senator seat in the Student Senate for the upcoming school year - your applications are due by 3pm today to Mrs. Luna or the receptionist desk. Please be sure to check on the status of your application with Mrs. Luna prior to campaigning. Also, all campaign materials must be approved and stamped by the office or Mrs. Luna. Senator elections will be held Tuesday, May 25th during both lunches in both buildings.

Senior Oscar Night tickets go on sale today during both lunches at the North building only. The cost per ticket is $2 for ALL seniors (including nominees), $4 for non-seniors.

If you would like a yearbook but have not yet ordered one, you may still have a chance. Sign up at either reception desk, and you will be contacted if there is a book available. The cost of these books will be $60 cash.

A reminder to all West Ottawans interested in traveling to West Africa in June next school year: There will be a meeting in room 253A, HSN right after school today to discuss plans for the CamTripVIII, West Ottawa’s eighth trip to The Republic of Cameroon. If travel to Africa is something that interests you, please be sure to attend. Contact Mr. Jaeger if you have questions.

The OK RED Student Council is sponsoring the first ever OK RED staff basketball game to benefit Red Cross disaster relief. This will take place May 12th at 6:30 pm at Grandville HS. Admission is $5. The first 50 tickets bought in advance here at WOHS will get a free t-shirt. Tickets can be purchased at the North Building receptionist desk. At the game, prizes will be given away every quarter! Participants from WO are Mr. Plank, Mr. Van Hekken, Coach Wolters, Coach Miller, and Coach Goei! *Each school participating is invited to submit one entry into the first ever OK Red American Idol Half Time competition-if interested, see Mrs. Luna in room A261.

Reminder: If you are going on the Spanish Field Trip to Grand Rapids to Salsa Dance and eat Spanish Tapas...Leave your 1st hour class on Thursday May 13th at 8:45. We will meet at the bus in the HS NORTH main entrance. We will leave at 9:00 a.m. Sharp. Bring your dancin' shoes!

Noche de Esperanza will be today at 6:30 PM at the Performing Arts Center. Noche de Esperanza is a cultural show that will celebrate the many differences that bring us together. Noche de Esperanza will have many performances that will highlight different cultures from our community. This event is organized by H.O.P.E. (hispanic organization for pride and education).

Attention students who took the AP US Government test: If you checked out a study booklet for the test please return it to Mr. Bartels this week.

Attention seniors: If you plan to attend Baker College, Davenport University, Grand Rapids Community or Muskegon Community College and you have taken business or technology courses at WOHS, see Mrs. Van Dam about articulation credit. Students who are eligible for articulation credit receive free college credit for courses taken at WOHS. Mrs. Van Dam is in room A201 at the North Building.

The dates for the late Advanced Placement tests are in the North Guidance Office. Students, you may pick up the schedule from the receptionist. You will also be given a confirmation regarding the time, date, and location.

Attention Seniors! Josten’s representatives will be back today during lunches (10:00-12:00) on Main Street in the North Building to distribute caps and gowns and any graduation products that were not picked up. If you still owe a balance please be prepared to pay it in full with cash or money order. NO CHECKS CAN BE ACCEPTED AT THAT TIME. If you will not be here to pick up your products please make arrangements to have someone else pick them up for you as there is not room at school to store these products!

Mr. Allen is retiring!

Mr. Ron Allen is retiring from his position as Athletic Director here at West Ottawa Schools.
